Munters Completes Expansion of Data Center Cooling Campus in Greenfield

Munters has completed a major expansion of its data center cooling manufacturing operations in Daleville, adding not only hundreds of jobs, but also added manufacturing capacity to its Botetourt County campus. The expansion inside the Botetourt Center at Greenfield continues a significant investment by the global technology company. Munters opened its first Botetourt County facility in 2022. Three years later, the company began construction on a second facility on a 30-acre parcel adjacent to its existing campus.

The nearly $30 million project adds approximately 200,000 square feet of manufacturing, training and testing space and establishes a dedicated data center supply chain production campus in Botetourt County.

The expanded campus is now approximately 565,000 square feet and employs nearly 600 people, making Munters one of the county's largest employers.

New Jobs

The expansion is expected to create approximately 270 additional jobs as Munters continues to increase production at its Daleville operations.

The growth also has a broader economic impact. According to the Roanoke Regional Partnership, the full implementation of Munters' two Botetourt County facilities is estimated to generate approximately $180 million in regional economic impact and support an additional 369 indirect and induced jobs across the region.

Those impacts include economic activity generated by Munters employees and by businesses that support the company's operations.

Expanding Advanced Manufacturing

The Daleville campus manufactures cooling technologies used in data centers around the world. The expansion also allows Munters to manufacture chillers locally, a product that was previously produced in Italy.

The facility includes expanded manufacturing operations, product testing areas, and a training facility and a laboratory for chiller development and testing. The project adds to the growing concentration of advanced manufacturing and technology-related businesses at the Botetourt Center at Greenfield.

For Botetourt County, that growth represents investment in commercial property and an expanding local tax base.

Munters' decision to expand its Daleville operations follows its initial investment in the county just a few years earlier.
