Trump Concludes USD200M Deal with Columbia University

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that his administration has finalized a “historic agreement” with Columbia University, which will pay $200 million to the U.S. government to resolve federal allegations of discrimination and regain access to billions in federal funds.

“Columbia has agreed to pay a penalty of $200 million to the United States Government for violating Federal Law, in addition to over $20 million to their Jewish employees who were unlawfully targeted and harassed,” Trump stated on Truth Social.

According to Trump, the university’s leadership also committed to implementing a merit-based admissions policy and upholding civil rights protections for students on campus.

“Numerous other Higher Education Institutions that have hurt so many, and been so unfair and unjust, and have wrongly spent federal money… are upcoming,” he added, hinting that additional enforcement actions may soon target other schools.

Columbia University confirmed that the $200 million penalty will be distributed over a three-year period. The settlement resolves federal accusations that the school discriminated against Jewish students and ensures the reinstatement of a majority of the $400 million in federal grants that had been frozen or revoked by the Trump administration in March.

The resolution also includes an extra $21 million to close investigations led by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) regarding alleged employment discrimination and concerns about campus safety.

“While Columbia does not admit to wrongdoing with this resolution agreement, the institution’s leaders have recognized, repeatedly, that Jewish students and faculty have experienced painful, unacceptable incidents, and that reform was and is needed,” the Ivy League institution said in a statement.

As part of the deal, Columbia will undergo federal oversight of its admissions and hiring procedures. The university is also required to share specific data regarding foreign students with immigration authorities.
